A place where people from all over the world can come together and share their love of metal music.

The politics forum has been with SnakeNet since the beginning. The name "The Battleboard" came about in the early days because of the heated political debate we had on the site. As our membership grew, so has the number of members from outside the United States. This served to bring in the perspectives of many different countries and my hope was that through discussion of political issues we could gain a better understanding of the world and other cultures.

Over the last year, we have worked diligently to increase the participation in our forum by members from outside of North America and the results have been tremendous. SnakeNet has achieved its goal of becoming an international site.

With the rise of international tensions over the past year, political discussions have become increasingly more emotional and polarized. This has created the need for heavier moderation of the politics forum and stricter guidelines to assure that people posting in the Politics forum showed respect to those of differing opinions.

Unfortunately, in spite of our best efforts, discussions in our political forum have increasingly caused tension and anger to spill over into other areas of the site. The goal of SnakeNet is to unite the metal clans under the banner of metal music. All too often, the political discussions on our boards have detracted attention from that goal.

Ignoring differences does not make them go away and preventing discussion will not promote a better understanding between people. However, although it is a nice high minded ideal, that is not the purpose of SnakeNet. We are a metal site for metalheads and that needs to remain our primary focus. Political discussions only distract our resources from our main reason for being, which is heavy metal music. Although this decision has been more difficult for me then anyone, I feel it is the right choice. We can now refocus our efforts on unifying our community and concentrate on what binds us together, rather then what separates us.

Effective immediately, all discussion of politics will be prohibited on the site. This includes flaming of countries political positions and leaders, links to political web sites and political "jokes" in our forums, IRC channel or anywhere else on the site.

Discussion of politics as they relate directly to heavy metal will still be permitted, such as topics on racism in lyrics or Kerry King running for President. However, these subjects will be moderated closely and if the discussion strays to far into the political arena, they will be shut down.

Members that violate this policy will be warned once and banned from posting on our boards for a second offense.

I hope this action will be a positive one for SnakeNet and our members. I'd like to thank Eggysan, Ruthie, Black Tulip and Newport News for the great job they have done moderating the forum and to all of our members that made it such an interesting part of forums.

SnakeNet on Twitter

<subject>Updates and Announcements</subject>

There are 25 replies, with the last one on 12/21/2009 at 08:12:26 by Metal_Dem
Quote:
fuck! there are people addicted at that point?!?
ok than. twitter is not for me

New Amon Amarth and Bloodbath

<subject>Updates and Announcements</subject>

There are 25 replies, with the last one on 10/16/2009 at 06:10:53 by Jebediah
Quote:
Sure, I was around back then and remember the long outages and all that too. Suffice to say there are a number of reasons why membership declined; being unable to yap certainly one of them. In the end it's probably a positive thing, as you say. However I'm sure it rubbed folks the wrong way that the main feature of SNMR (the stream) was down so long after other measures taken for the perceived good of the site. Had the zeitgeist been persistent who's to say what would be different.

Then again maybe people just move on. SNMR was great for exposing me to all the different kinds of metal when I was a n00b.
